I almost forgot to introduce you the Burning Man… here it is, very friendly, openminded, helpful, funny and crazy. They will burn him the last night of the event, usually on Saturday. He dominates the whole week everything that is going on in the Playa.

I know that Burning Man is open to everybody, but please don’t bring children here. You are exposing them to extreme temperatures, not only heat but also cold at night; the kids will constantly inhale the dust that is everywhere. They will also see people taking drugs or drinking… do you still think is a good place for kids?

Anything that is bright is super welcome in BM. Specially, if it’s flourescent: t-shirts, armbands, necklaces… anything! It is also useful and very important to add some fluorescent lights to your bike. People are riding bikes like crazy and most of them are high, so it is a good idea to have any kind of light or just the flourescent sticks.

Just remember that not everything is party. You will be surrounded by extreme temperatures as well as dust storm. This is not a half an hour storm, it can stay hours even days. Be prepared with warm clothes, since at night is cold; googles and dust masks are going to be your best friends forever!! Don’t forget to take water with you, your inseparable friend in this experience.

Drive can be a problematic issue, specially if you are the driver. In BM you will get exhausted, not only because you party all night long, but also the excitement, the heat and other environmental conditions. Make sure your camp agrees on dividing the driving back home. If you rent a car, make sure to add a secondary driver, it’s more expensive but live is worthy. BM is expensive anyway so start to save money. Another option is to use public transportation; you can go from San Francisco to Reno using Amtrak and from there rent a car. We did this last year and it worked perfectly and less drive!

If you would like to go, but you don’t find the exact people this is your place. We will try to connect people from all over the world, who would love to go to BM; we will try to organize and create a nice camp, where everybody has to contribute with something. Remember the concept as a community, in which everybody help each other. You don’t need to be a great artist, just a spirit who wants to live one of the best experiences of his/her life. We are a really open minded group, we speak different languages and come from different places of the world. However, the departure location will be Oakland, CA (if you can’t we could also pick you up in Reno).

Before I went to BM I heard so many myths about it: “Don’t go with your boyfriend/girlfriend, you’ll break up because everybody is having sex everywhere…”; “Don’t go, people steal all your belongings…” After being there, I’m sure these things happen, but not as a common pattern. Going with your partner is hell of cool, specially when both of you are high! All these myths, might have part of true, but don’t believe it at all. Relax and enjoy the festival without any prejudice that you have received before. Even if this girls are half naked, doesn’t mean they want sex with you right now; the desert is super hot plus they are claiming their right to be top less (a routine sanctioned in the States but practiced all over the world).

It’s amazing how environmental friendly this event is. They leave La Playa the way it was before the event. If you count 60,000 people during one week how much trash they can make, and nothing is left there after the festival… it’s AWESOME! There are multiple places to recycle and through your trash in cities near by Black Rock City. Last year we threw all our trash in Reno, where we found tones of containers and multiple points to recycle. Participants in BM are also conscious, even more when you see that nobody is throwing anything. We are the animals which greatest levels of impact in nature! Remember to keep it clean and take with you your own cup; not only you will help the environment, but also people will poor drinks on it!

The idea behind this blog is to meet people who want to go to Burning Man, to share images, experiences, everything; keeping the same Burning Man philosophy . May be organize a camp together, help each other and introduce the festival to people who haven’t been there. I went last year for the first time and I can’t explain Burning Man to anybody who hasn’t been there. It is something that everybody must see. Burning Man also is very inspiring for artists, definitely, gives you great ideas and opens your mind and creativity. It is also a fabulous way to meet people from all over the States and, of course, the world. I would love that burners spend a little time here, explaining things to beginner burners, such as myself. I think between all of us we can transmit to the rest of the world how unbelievable and amazing this festival is. This is my lovely camp members, the four of us are involved in arts but in different fields: from a chef to a glass blower artist, a painter and a graphic designer.
