If you are new to Burning Man, these are some ideas that you may find useful.
Dust Storms and burning sunny days are the most problematic issues in BM. Bring a shade, any kind that can protect you from a sun-stroke or a faint (specially if you have taken extra magic vitamins the night before…).
Be prepared to suffer dust in every single part of your body, including water, drinks and food. Also keep all your belongings and camp items (chairs, tents…) battened down and secure before you leave your camp. You can loose everything, since the storms can be extremely strong and wild. Remember also to keep your camp clean, due to strong winds bottles and other trash may disappear. Black Rock City is a protected natural environment that we have to take care of. Did you know that BM is being considered for entry into the Guinness Book of World Records as the largest Leave No Trace Event event in the world? There are tones of recycling points in Reno, so take all your trash back with you.
You have to understand the gift culture. Be conscious that people will give you presents, so you should thing what you can give to people. It is a great philosophy which involves to give and receive. Also don’t expect that everybody has to give you something, be respectful with all Black Rock City citizens.
The video below sums up the experience of BM.
